Celine Dion - Her Show Closes This Year, But Her Heart Will Go On!

Boo-hoo. I just discovered Celine Dion will sing her last note in Las Vegas on December 15 this year, when her long running one-woman show "A New Day" shuts its doors at Ceasar's Palace.

Caesar's has not yet announced a replacement for Celine's multimedia show. We can only imagine the tired-of-touring singing stars that might line up for the job. We vote for Christina Aguilera. Classy. Soulful. What a voice!

Hopefully a new, appropriate Goddess will be installed.

I am not a crazy Celine Dion fan buy she will be a hard act to follow. Her's is an amazing show. I saw it while renewing my wedding vows in 2005. It was our big date right before the big day. Before the show begins a camera crew captures individuals in the audience, and shows them on the HUGE screen. I noticed Regis Philbin in the audience. And I when the camera settled on my hubby and I, he (hubby) put his arm around me and mouthed for the audience "I love this woman." It was so much fun. Sigh.

Later, the screen in transformed into part of a multimedia extravaganza, with many different kinds of images, and dozens of dancers gracing the stage. Celine flies and runs and dances about with her trademark drama and flare. She sings all her classics. It's very entertaining!

We should thank Celine for bringing the cool back to performing in Vegas. Wasn't it she who brought attention to the fact that Las Vegas entertainment was no longer just about Showgirls, Elvis and Wayne Newton? She opened the door for a more modern kind of entertainer to grace the Las Vegas stage. She made it popular for five star performers to have ongoing gigs.

Caesar's built her a $95 million theater designed for her special production. It lasted for five years.

When she began, she was just sort of bouncing back from taking two years off and caring for her sick husband -- he was recovering from cancer -- and she was a new mom. It was an alternative to touring and wearing herself out traveling the world to perform (as she had for many years prior to hubby's illness and babies birth).

With her Las Vegas job, she could spend days with baby, and prance around the stage performing at night. Not a bad gig for a big star with a small child.

She had a relationship with Caesar's prior. She had performed there. And she renewed her wedding vows there in a nuptial extravaganza in the nineties. Who can forget her Vegas Show-girlish bridal head dress (much as we'd like to forget it).

Celine is a Grammy award winning singer who is one of the top selling female artists of all time -- up there with Britney, Witney, Barbara and, of course, Mariah.

She originally signed a three year contract with a nice paycheck of $100 million. A favorite of vacationers and honeymooners, the run was later extended through 2007. Millions of people have sat in that audience to catch her show.

This final year, we hear there will be some new costumes (will she retire that red dress?) and new numbers. If you are there this January, you may catch the filming of a TV Special and DVD (expected in late January).

Ofcourse, this could be a Barbara or Cher kind of thing ... there is always the chance she will come back for an encoure or never actually shut down production. But producers say that if you want to catch the show before she retires it, keep in mind that final tix for performances in August through December 2007 go on sale in March.
