Wedding trivia and other facts for fun
Did you know...
On your wedding day it is BAD LUCK to see an open grave, pig, or lizard on the way to the ceremony, or hearing a crow after dawn on the morning of the wedding. Catching a glimpse of a monk or a nun is also thought to be an omen of misfortune because of their relationship to poverty and chastity.
For your Vegas wedding, it is unlikely that you will have a problem with all of the above situations, except possibly the lizard. There are a number of gamblers who might also have a relationship to poverty, but they are not listed as bad omens by the National Association of Ministers. I could say something about pigs, but we will assume the list refers to farm animals.
The bridesmaids' dresses being the same dates back to ancient times when it was believed that evil spirits have a more difficult time distinguishing which one is the bride and putting a hex on her.
Traditionally, the bride had to enter the new home through the front door. If she tripped or stumbled while entering, it was considered bad luck. To avoid the possibility of the clumsy wench ruining everything, the groom would sweep her up into his arms and carry her over the threshold. It doesn't address the possibility of back strain and the groom's bad luck if the bride is a bit heavy.
Now for some good omens...I wonder if these will work at the tables.
If before the ceremony you see a lamb, a frog, a spider, a black cat, or rainbows, it is considered good luck. There might be a problem locating the lamb and frog on the Las Vegas Strip. There are not too many black cats or spiders just hanging out either. Depending on the group, you might see a few rainbows.
