Take a Class to Take a Plunge in Utah

studentsIt is being proposed in the Utah Legislature that couples take classes mandated by the state before obtaining marriage licenses. The classes would cover finances, parenting, and anything the state feels necessary to make a successful marriage. Now wouldn't you like to write that handbook?

If you fail the class, no marriage, or you can run for the border. Las Vegas requires no blood tests, no classes; the law, however, requires a qualified person perform a ceremony after you get the license. That person can be "Elvis" if you wish. Is it too easy to get married; should states make it harder? Or, are we grown up enough to know what we want to do and when? Of course if the cake melts, it is a bad sign.
