Lovelock, Nevada capitalizes on Chinese tradition

Lovelock, Nevada lockIn an effort to draw more tourists to its rural town, Lovelock, Nevada opened Lovers Lock Plaza on Valentine’s Day.

There’s an ancient Chinese tradition where couples place a lock on a chain and throw away the key, thus preserving their love forever . . . at least according to the tradition. I wonder what the divorce rate is in China? Surely locking your love can’t be that easy.

If you visit the Great Wall you’ll see miles of chains holding lovers’ locks. And if you saw last season’s Amazing Race on ABC you watched as contestants had to search for one lock among hundreds of locks that would be unlocked with their key.

So, for those of you who want to preserve your love forever, a quick jaunt to Lovelock, a lock and a key, should do the trick.
