Mississippi tries to follow Vegas lead
What do you think would happen to the wedding industry in Las Vegas if a three-day wait to get a marriage license were in place?
Perhaps the Britney Spears episode — where she ran off to Vegas, got married, then woke up the next day claiming the marriage was just a joke — would be prevented.
But perhaps such discretion just doesn’t fit in Vegas.
The Mississippi House voted Tuesday to eliminate their three-day wait to get a marriage license. However, similar bills have passed the Mississippi House the past two years, only to die in the state’s Senate.
The new bill would also allow 18-to-20-year-olds to get married without parental permission and would eliminate the premarital blood test that screens for syphilis.
Supporters say the changes could help Mississippi's economy by encouraging more weddings in the state.
Biloxi — Las Vegas. Mississippi — Nevada. Are they playing follow the leader, or what?
But try as they might, the Gulf Coast state is just too humid to truly emulate Nevada. Besides, there’s something to be said for no state income tax. Thank you, Nevada.
