200 Million Cards Exchanged on Valentine's Day
The US Census Bureau reports that only 11 percent of households celebrate Valentine's Day by gifting each other jewelry on Valentine’s. However, people seem to find other ways to celebrate the holiday of hearts.
-Hallmark Corporation say nearly 200 million cards are exchanged each year on February 14, and that doesn’t include V-day card packs exchanged by millions of schoolchildren each year.
-Organic Bouque estimates that over 200 million roses were produced for Valentine’s Day 2011.
-LifeStyles Condoms estimates that 87 condoms are used each second in the U.S. on Valentine’s Day, which also shares the day with the lesser known holiday, National Condom Day.
Whose footing the bill? Well, you know it's not just sex - it's dinner and flowers. The National Retail Federation reports that men spend nearly twice the amount women spend on the holiday.
Happy Valentine's Day.
