Would You Get Married In The Nude? This Pair Did!

You gotta love this story.
Nude weddings are on the rise, according to "Weddings Exposed: Bride and Groom Bare All," a carefully crafted piece by Lana Gerseten of Columbia News Service. It appeared in yesterday's, Feb 20th, Arizona Central.
Geresten apparently attended the wedding of a nudist couple in the Berkshires - no word as to whether the reporter was clothed -- and she wrote a trend report on the increase of weddings without clothes. She tells us most of the guests were sans clothes - save for a few hats and accessories -- and that about 12 had their clothes on. (The family of the bride and groom, I bet!)
This is an interesting trend. Just think of the money the bride saves on a dress! Not a bad way to knock a few bucks off the traditional $26,000 or more average cost of a wedding.
Geresten says that nude weddings are a big thing on nude cruises. On a recent naked cruise 15 couples came together in holy matrimony or renewed their vows.
Obviously, these are couples who spend as much time nude as they can and not people who spur of the moment rip off their clothes and say, "hey, let's get hitched." They seem to be pretty serious about their stand of nudity.
Geresten quoted Rev. Jo Ann Pessagno, a minister who she says has presided over 80 nude weddings. She officiated the wedding covered in the article.
"Couples who get married in the nude are closer to God, the universe, divine energy," she said . "Their emphasis is on the ceremony and the words as opposed to the flowers, the place cards, what kind of wine they're serving, what kind entrees, desserts."
I agree with putting the emphasis on the ceremony, wholeheartedly, but I would image that if the rest of the guests are not experienced and devoted naturalists that a naked bride and groom might just possibly be a bit of... a distaction. Ya think?
But God love 'em. We come into this world bare as can be, and we express love to the one we marry in that state as well, so I can think of worse things than a nude wedding.
But would I officiate a nude wedding? hmmm.....
Alas, I do many, many uniques weddings but that is one kind of wedding I would likely have to pass on. I honestly do not think that me, in nothing but a clergy stole and flip-flops, would add to the moment. Oy vey.
But I do think it is great that there is a clergy person who is comfortable serving that community because I am sure the ceremonies are very loving, sweet and natural.
