Wedding Libation Ceremony - No Alcohol, Just Love
By Rev. Laurie Sue Brockway
I was interviewed today for an article about interfaith weddings and in sharing stories about some of my couples I was reminded of a really interesting wedding I co-officiated several years ago.

The bride, a recovering alcoholic, wanted a libation ceremony that honored her connection to the earth and would not make her family run screaming from the room (a wine ceremony might). So we used water, which I asked the guests to help me bless.
If you happen to be looking for a non-alcoholic libation ceremony for your wedding, try this!
Blessing over the water:
Officiant: We offer a special blessing of love. This water is a gift of the earth that can nourish you, and cleanse your sorrows… that can heal you and sustain you.
May the sharing of this cup symbolize the sharing of your lives.
May it symbolize your commitment to embrace all that is… together.
And may it symbolize giving to each other and receiving from each other, with enthusiasm and delight. Amen!
Please drink to a rich and soulful marriage
The couple sips.
Now, we pour the remainder of the water into the pot of earth on the altar… as a reminder that what nourishes us must also be nourished.
