Brides and Politics, TheKnot.com Launches BridesDecide.com

Although many people tend to think that Brides are not using their noggins (an power!) for anything other than wedding planning details such as flowers and dress, our friends at Theknot.com know better.

In conjunction with WeddingChannel.com, they created BridesDecide.com just in time for the presidential elections, to get brides-to-be chatting about their views and hopes on important issues.

Brides and politics. Does this mean that the focus is off the wedding gowns and onto the issues of the day? Actually, it seems that the site give a little of each, and remembers who the audience is.

Merging the power of two bridal megasites, this new online destination is meant to make it easy for brides-to-be and recently-marrieds to compare the candidates and issues. The target audience is busy women in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties. The goal is to get brides "engaged in the 2008 election and make informed decisions about their community through the political process."

Okay... do we hear a yawn or two in the background?

On the contrary, the site has been buzzing with messages from nearlyweds and newlyweds about their views on virtually every important election topic. And, by the way, I see a big banner ad for real weddings, so if you get board with politics you can click on to see how some real couples tied the knot!

BridesDecide.com will apparently be issuing trend polls, a la The Knot. According to a recent poll of brides and newlyweds, health care ranks as the most important issue, followed by the war in Iraq.

David Liu, Co-Founder and CEO of The Knot Inc. (business mastermind and hubby of Knot Editor-in-Chief Carley Roney) said this about the new venture: "There are more than 12 million brides and newlyweds in the communities of TheKnot.com, WeddingChannel.com, and newlywed site TheNest.com. With such a huge pool of potential voters, we felt it was important to create BridesDecide.com as a channel for women to research and communicate with each other about the presidential election in a fun and straightforward medium."

Hmmmm... wonder if they will be taking political adds on the site?

Just as TheKnot.com is famous for his chat boards where "Knotties" gather and compare wedding woes, marital miracles and bridal bargins, you can stop by the site and compare where candidates stand on different issues, find voting information, and also share your thoughts with other brides and newlyweds via the online message board community.
